The flag line is a way of expressing a THANK YOU for serving our Country as well as saying WELCOME HOME to each of them
.

** Respect for the flag is an important issue for those who have served in one of the U.S. military branches. Official flag protocol specifies when and how civilian and military personnel are expected to salute the flag. The civilian salute is different than the military salute. A recent change to U.S. law now allows military veterans to continue rendering the military salute when not in uniform. It also authorizes military veterans not in military uniform to render a military-style hand salute at the playing of the national anthem as well as a military-style hand salute for veterans out of uniform during raising and lowering of the flag. Each of you will be seeing lots of flags and people saluting you. Please be advised that it is proper and encouraged for you to salute these flags as per above information.

Hello Veterans, Boat Captains, Sponsors, Staff and Volunteers,

The 1st annual Walleyes for Warriors event is behind us.  What a success it was!  It would be difficult to determine who enjoyed themselves more, the 170 Veterans who participated in fishing the Saginaw Bay for walleye and also enjoyed the other events, prizes and food, or the many ambitious volunteers, sponsors and Boat Captains who had the opportunity to serve our Vets by preparing for and working at the event.

Words cannot express enough gratitude for your participation this year.  Whatever your part, from planning, donating as one of our sponsors, working or participating as an honored guest, a Veteran of the U.S. Military, THANK YOU!

Due to popular demand, plans for the 2nd annual Walleyes for Warriors event are underway!  The date has been set for June 16-17, 2012.  You will be able to reminisce about the 2011 event as well as follow progress of plans for 2012 at the new website sponsored by Lindy's of Quanicassee.  Lisa from Lindy's will post such things as pictures, videos, past and present sponsor information, and updates about the next event at walleyesforwarriors.com

This 2011 event was a major undertaking that involved the efforts of countless people.  The generosity of our donors is appreciated so much.  Without it, none of this would have been possible.  Not only did our Veterans experience an event to remember for a lifetime, but the
Brain Injury Association of Michigan Veterans program and the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America received residual proceeds to benefit their programs which help returning combatants by "Creating a Better Future through Education, Advocacy, Research, Support and Prevention".

Again, THANK YOU one and all for your involvement in the 2011 Walleyes for Warriors event.  Check out the website and watch our plans progress for 2012.  Remember our Veterans and their families in your prayers and may GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Sincerely,

Nels Larsen

United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, was critically injured on April 10th by an IED (improvised explosive device) while on patrol, losing portions of both legs and both arms. He is only the fourth quadruple amputee, from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to survive his injuries. Thanks to his amazing strength, courage, an incredible will to live, the heroic actions of the men in his unit, and the prayers of thousands, Travis has returned to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, near Washington DC, where he is on the road to recovery. Every day is a battle, but Travis continues to astound friends and family alike with his progress and with his amazing spirit. SSG Travis Mills is a genuine American hero, and for his incredible sacrifice, we are forever in his debt.
